LJ has set up a community [livejournal.com profile] fandom_speaks so that people (geared towards fandom) can post questions and comments about the current situation.

Here's mine. I'll probably go back later and edit in a question about not being able to link to things that LJ considers bad.

While I applaud LJ's decision to try and make their site more legal and user friendly, the way you've gone about it is all wrong.

Why now, after all these years of operation, did you finally realize that Child porn (and the other things you're choosing to ban/delete) is illegal? Child Porn stories are all over the news. Why take action now?
And, on the same note, why did you ignore abuse reports that pointed out Child Porn for so long?

Why did you feel that you had to be so secretive about things? Why did you just not inform your users that you were changing policy? It's easy.
"Dear users,
We at Livejournal are concerned with the growing number of livejournals and communities that promote ____________. As such, we have amended our policies. We are requesting that in the next (define a time period here)you please remove all content that is a violation of this content. After the specific time period has passed, any journal we find in violation of our new policy will be banned.
Thank you,
The LJ staff."

That wasn't so hard, was it?

I have no large issues complying with your new policy, I think it's a good policy, one less haven for Child Porn. I'm not really pleased that many fandom activities are falling under this policy, but I'll accept it. What I really have issue with is the way you chose to go about implementing your policies. Would really have been so bad to be open about your plans, or to try and work with this large community of users?
