Later that day, both O'Neill and Carter slipped quietly into the briefing room. Neither were surprised to see a lacky of Kinsey's busily setting up recording equipment and distributing classified folders to several seats around the table. Carter and the lacky locked eyes for a moment and she offered a small smile in greeting that wasn't returned. Cold eyes focused on her for a moment before dropping back to the folders in his hands.

"That can't be good," she muttered to O'Neill as they took a seat next to each other in the middle of the table.

"When has anything having to do with that shrub been good?" he muttered back. The shared a look before she felt his hand slip under the table to grasp her own and give it a squeeze.

"Oh good, Colonel, Major."

"General," they both greeted Hammond, standing slightly to show respect. He nodded before setting his face firm.

"I trust you both remember Senator Kinsey," he said tersely, gesturing to the other man who was striding into the room. The officers both agreed that they did remember him and the three exchanged falsely pleasant greetings.

"Let's get right to business," Kinsey said, not even trying to hide the smirk on his face. Sam and Jack both sat a little straighter in their chairs as Kinsey began to question them relentlessly about the mission to Edora and the circumstances surrounding their marooning. "You disobeyed a direct order then, Major?" he asked.

"No sir," she said. "Colonel O'Neill asked Teal'c, Daniel and myself to help the villagers through the Stargate. When the last of the villagers had been evacuated, I went off in search of the Colonel."

"Teal'c report says he called out for you to return, yet you didn't. Did you ignore him as well?"

"I didn't hear Teal'c," she answered simply. He was fishing and hoping to trick them both into saying something incriminating. "It was very windy and loud sir, what with all the meteors striking the planet." The pair shared a look and Jack did his best not to snicker. They had definitely been spending too much time together if he was this bad of an influence over her. Kinsey pecked away at Sam a little longer before focusing his attention on Jack.

Kinsey's interrogation went on for hours and he hadn't even gotten to the main reason for said interrogation when Hammond stepped in and put an end to it for the day.

"General!" Kinsey protested.

"Senator, we have been in this room for hours. I don't know about you but I would appreciate being able to take the rest of the evening to stretch my legs, have something to eat and get a good nights rest." Kinsey fumed for a moment before finally agreeing that that would be acceptable.

"I'll see you all at 9am tomorrow morning," he said as he stormed out of the room. The same lackey as before dutifully stood up and began collecting the folders and turning off the recording equipment while Sam and Jack slipped quietly out of the room.

"I need a drink," Jack said, scrubbing his hands over his face as they headed towards the elevators.

"Read my mind. Should we invite Daniel and Teal'c?"

"Why not? We can go snag a booth at O'Malley's and bitch about Kinsey."
**
The time spent at O'Malley's had been cathartic for all of SG1 and would have liked it to go on longer, except for the fact that showing up hungover to their 'debriefing' wouldn't look good for Sam and Jack.

"Maybe we should have kept drinking last night," Jack muttered as they took their seats in the briefing room the next morning. "Would have given us an excuse to bail early."

"Being hungover is not an excuse, Sir," she threw on, too keep up military appearances. Jack realized in that moment that he hadn't missed hearing her call him Sir.

"We could have just said we were sick, we wouldn't have to give specifics." Sam simply sent him a look as Kinsey, Hammond and the lackey entered the room. Kinsey picked up right where he had left off the day before.

"You and Major Carter lived together while on the planet?"

"Seemed like a good idea," Jack said. "We couldn't keep sleeping on Laira's kitchen floor." Jack gave Sam a nudge under the table with his foot, trying to tell her to relax. She was tense, worried about what he was going to say. She returned the nudge, but didn't relax any.

"And when did you first start sleeping with Major Carter?" Kinsey asked out right. The stony look on Hammond's face grew colder. Everyone at the table knew that he could protest, but that it would make it look like whatever Jack said next was a lie.

"Well, how do you define sleeping together?" Jack asked. "Because Carter and I have slept together in the same tent since her first trip to Abydos. She's also slept with Teal'c and Daniel. Being specific would really help Senator." Kinsey's face took on a red tinge and Sam wanted to groan and bury her head in her hands while Kinsey began to berate Jack for his flippancy.

"You know very well what I mean!"

"And I don't think it's any of your business if I slept with her or not," Jack countered.

"As an officer in the United States Air Force. . ."

"I wasn't an officer after 3 months on that planet," Jack fired back. "That's how long it took to declare us officially MIA, isn't it?" Carter sat quietly at O'Neill's side, hoping that she magically become invisible. Growing up with Jacob Carter as a father had made it impossible for her to even exaggerate the truth like Jack was doing. If Kinsey asked her these questions, she'd admit to their relationship flat out.

"Colonel, as long as you were wearing that uniform. . . "

"Stopped wearing that a few weeks after we got there. Plowing fields and digging for the gate is dirty, sweaty work." Kinsey and O'Neill grew quiet as they sized each other up for a moment and Kinsey re-evaluated his game plan. He didn't really care what happened to O'Neill but Carter's brain was too valuable to loose. He had to find a way to get O'Neill to cop to a relationship. If Carter did it, he'd loose her and her knack for making things blow up.

"Colonel O'Neill," he started again. "Did you or did you not engage in a personal, sexual relationship with Major Carter while stranded on Edora?" Sam closed her eyes and dipped her head.

"I did," Jack finally admitted, his eyes cold, but never leaving Kinsey's.

"And you engaged in this relationship knowing full well that it was in direct violation of Air Force regulations?"

"We didn't know if we were ever going to see Earth again. . . " he started.

"Answer the question Colonel!"

"Yes," he said simply through gritted teeth.

"I want Colonel O'Neill placed in custody pending a full court martial hearing for conduct unbecoming an officer in the United States Air Force." With a sigh Hammond nodded and motioned for two of the SF's at the door to escort Jack to his quarters. The small group watched Jack leave and Carter steeled herself, waiting for her turn. "Well, I think we're done here," Kinsey said, a satisfied smirk on his face as he gathered his folders. Sam quickly looked between Hammond and Kinsey for a moment, trying to figure out what was going on. "Good day General, Major," he said with a curt nod as he left the briefing room.

"Sir, permission to be dismissed?" Sam asked quietly after a long moment. Hammond nodded and watched as Sam slipped from her chair and hurried from the room. He sat back in his chair, thinking about what had just happened while he tried to figure out what exactly Kinsey's plan was. He had been convinced that as soon as O'Neill had admitted to a relationship, that Kinsey was going to turn on Carter and get her to admit it as well, swiftly getting rid of both of them in one go. Instead, he had let her go.

With a sigh Hammond pushed himself up and headed for his office, intent on making some phone calls to people who knew who might have an idea what the Senator was up to.
