Again, continuing on from last night. Have a bit of a better idea where I'm going with this now. I think.
Hoshi shivered a little as she poked at the small fire she had built up in her fire place. No one really had use for a linguist on this rock and money was getting a little tight. Again. She left the flames and went to watch the sun dip bellow the horizon and her mind drifted to Trip again. He had become more and more distant and self destructive as time had gone on. They hadn't stopped the Xindi in time and had not only watched as Earth was destroyed, but had been on the run for the better part of a year before the ship had been destroyed as well. Only a handful of the crew had made it to the rock they were now on.
Shortly after Earth had been destroyed, reports from the boomers started to come in that the Xindi were systematically seeking out the humans that were left in space and destroying their ships, colonies and them. Phlox had been a quick thinker though. After they had lost Earth, he began systematically schedule every member of the crew for superficial surgical altercations so they no longer looked human. She rubbed a hand over the facial ridges she had been given. She had stopped looking in mirrors a long time ago, tired of longing to see her own face.
A cold wind blew through a crack around the window and she shivered, pulling the blanket tighter around her and she glanced at the communications terminal for a moment before she squared her shoulders and headed over to it, opening a secure channel and waiting.
"Yes?"
"Is your offer still standing?" she asked quietly, looking at a point over the shoulder of the person she was talking to. They smiled slightly and sat back in their chair.
"For you, always. I was hoping you'd reconsider." A heavy silence fell over them. "I'll send a car around for you. Wear something . . . nice." Hoshi agreed and cut the channel, a single tear rolled down her cheek before she steeled herself and headed off to get ready.
Oh, Hoshi . . . .
