Eh, so it's not HP. Sue me.
"Yer quiet tonight," Trip commented to Hoshi as they sat in a bar together. Jon had declined the invitation.
"Not much to say," she muttered into her mug of beer, not looking him in the eye.
"Wanna trade?" he asked with a smile. "Yer beer seems to be more interestin' than mine." Hoshi looked up at him and he frowned a little. There was something in her eyes that he didn't like the looks of. "What is is Hosh?" he asked.
"Nothing," she said, draining her glass. "I should go, I have something to do tonight."
"I'll walk ya home," he said, throwing some credits on the table.
"It's okay, really," she insisted as she hurried on her way.
"I'm not lettin' you walk through this part of town alone," he insisted as he hurried to catch up to her.
"Why the hell do you care?" she snapped at him. "You don't seem to care about me or Jon when you disappear for days at a time and leave us to worry that we're going to find out you're dead in a sewer somewhere." Trip was a little taken aback by this out burst. It had been a long time since he had heard Hoshi become anything but mildly sarcastic or tired sounding.
"Of course I care," he said. "I just need to get away some times."
"Yeah? Well I just need to get away," Sato informed him as she continued on her way. Tucker considered calling out to her again and confessing what he had been doing to her, to get it off his chest but he decided against it. She didn't need any more demons to deal with. He rubbed a hand over the back of his neck before he wandered his own way home and realized something just after he crossed the threshold; he had a nagging feeling that for the first time, in a long time, his conscience was trying to tell him something.
