"So?"

"So what?" Kate asked as Lanie stared at her over the file she had just pulled. There was no body in the morgue or open case at the moment, but Lanie was testifying next week, so she was reviewing.

"You've been on, what? 4," Kate cut her off.

"6," she corrected with a blush she tried to hide by ducking her face down.

"6 dates with this writer of yours and you have yet to fill me in." Kate was quick to point out that Lanie knew Castle, she was a just as much a fan of his books as Kate was. "And I can read the dust jacket as well as the next girl. I want to know what this guy is really like," Lanie said, closing the file and dropping it onto one of the exam tables before taking a seat. With a sigh, Kate sat herself on a stool that was on the opposite side of the table.

"He's nothing like Page Six makes him out to be," Kate divulged at first. "When ever there's an event, his publicist finds some pretty young thing to stick on his arm and the media runs with it. If they can get the same girl twice in a row, they do, but that can't always mange it." Lanie listened as her friend spilled out a few more rather generic details about Richard Castle.

"You're holding back the good stuff, I know you are," she said when Kate was done. "What's he like in bed?" Lanie finally asked, wanting to get the good dirt. Kate blushed and fumbled for an answer before Lanie finally realized that they hadn't actually slept together yet. "You have known this man for 5 months, been on 6 dates with him and you haven't jumped him yet?"

"He has kids!" Kate said in her defense. "It's not like he can just not come home one night." Reluctantly, Lanie agreed that the detective was right. "If second base was any indication though. . . " Kate trailed off with a Mona Lisa smile as Lanie just shook her head.

"When are you going to bring that girl home, Richard?" Martha asked as she crossed her arms and leaned against the door frame that led to his office.

"I don't know what business that is of yours, mother," he pointed out with a bit of a smirk once he had finally looked up from the computer screen. She pointed out that he'd been involved with the Detective, in some way, shape or form, for nearly 6 months and shouldn't the woman know exactly who and what she was getting involved with. "She knows about Charlie and Alexis," he told her calmly. "She's met both of them."

"And what about Alexis? She's old enough to understand what's going on," Martha pointed out as she finally stepped into the office and sat in one of the chairs.

"That's why I haven't brought her home yet," he pointed out calmly, finally saving his work and shutting the laptop lid. "We've had a grand total of 6 dates, there is still plenty of time for something to go wrong and I would rather not put my children through another break up." Martha couldn't fault him for that. All three of them had been miserable for weeks after Meredith left. "Speaking of which, are you free Friday?" he asked with his most charming smile. She eyed her son for along moment before asking what time, She let him hang again for as long as she could before letting him know that she'd be there. It had been a very long time since she'd seen her son this contented with life.

"Stay," Kate whispered to him as Friday was starting to turn into Saturday. He already had a large lead off of second and she hoping he'd go for it.

"Kate. . ." Rick groaned as he tried to find the will power to back away from her.

"Text your mother and tell her you're staying," she asked again as she did something very, VERY persuasive with the tongue. "Stay," she asked once more.

Will be late, don't wait up.

Martha grinned to herself as she read the text on her cell phone before she headed up the stairs to the guest room for the night.
