"I could have sworn I grabbed them," Rick complained as he tried to pat his pockets down while shifting Charlie from arm to arm until Kate sighed and rolled her eyes, stepping forward to pluck the boy from his arms. She settled him on her hip and turned her attention to the dogs he was pointing to on the other side of the street while Rick went back to patting down his pockets.

"I'm gonna be late!" Alexis complained, bouncing on her toes slightly as she looked up at Rick. There was some kind of kids art thing going on at The MET and it had been all Alexis could talk about for the last 2 weeks.

"What if I took them?" Kate finally spoke up after a minute, seeing as how Rick was still patting down his pockets for his wallet and phone.

"Please?" Alexis begged.

"Are you sure?" he asked. Kate had never volunteered to take the kids anywhere without him before, she rarely even picked Charlie up until he said something about it.

"Yeah," she said, straightening her spine and hoping she sounded more confident than she really felt. "It's just a cab ride and then sign Alexis in when we get there. Charlie and I can wander around until you get there. The adults stared at each other for a moment before Rick turned to ask Alexis if she was okay with this. The girl didn't even let him finish before she was pulling on Kate's free hand, begging her to please hurry.

"I'll be right behind you," he said as she slipped her hand from Alexis' grasp and let him slide Charlie's bag over her head. Part of Kate was glad it was a messenger bag and not some gaudy thing. "Listen to Kate, hold her hand," he reminded Alexis. "No running," he pointed a finger at Charlie.

"No," the boy said, shaking his head. Rick couldn't help but watch as Kate quickly moved to the curb and shot her arm out, managing to catch the first cab they saw. She ushered Alexis in first before sliding herself and Charlie in. Satisfied that she seemed to have things under control, he jogged back into the building and headed for the elevator.

"Go! Go!" Charlie said, his voice echoing through the gallery as he tried to pull away from Kate. The room was empty of people except for them and the boy wanted nothing more than to start running the length of the huge room.

"No running, remember?" she asked him. Kate couldn't help but smile as she could practically feel the sigh of disappointment he gave. "Look, birds," she said, pointing to one of the pictures up ahead. They wandered over to have a look and ended up being pleasantly surprised as he stopped and stared at the picture for far longer than she would have expected.

"Mo?" he asked her. Charlie showed no hesitancy in getting Kate to do his bidding, as far as he was concerned, she was just another person to play with, even if she was a little slow to join in on his games.

"Sure, let's find some more birds," she answered as she took his hand again and they headed off on their way. She was glad to see that Rick was right; Charlie was easy to understand once you picked up the accent. The pair of them wandered the gallery for nearly an hour, doing their best to not only hunt out all the pictures of birds, but of any other animal Charlie could think of to ask for before Rick finally showed up at their side. He asked about Alexis and Kate assured him everything was fine. They had gotten here in time, Kate a signed her in and left her cell number for any art related injuries that might occur. He made a wise crack about art related injuries and they shared a laugh that was interrupted by an older woman who just had to stop and tell them what an adorable, well behaved son they had. Rick caught the slightly panicked look that flew onto Kate's face and he stepped in before she could start making excuses.

"Thank you," he told her, offering the woman his most charming smile. "It's always nice to hear that you're doing a good job." He chatted with the woman a while longer before they finally parted company and everyone continued on their way. "What?" he asked when he saw the look on Kate's face.

"Why didn't you say anything?" she asked. Rick shrugged.

"Wasn't worth it," he said before bending over to pick up Charlie. "Things would have just been awkward and embarrassing. Does it bother you that I didn't say anything?" Kate had no real answer to that question. She honestly didn't know if it bothered her or not.

A new queen for Castle?
The Master of the Macabre, Richard Castle was spotted with his two young children and a mystery woman Saturday afternoon. The author, who has been notorious scarce on the social scene since his nasty divorce from ex-wife Meredith Castle, was seen leaving The Met Saturday afternoon with his two young children and a tall mystery brunette. Is it possible that Castle has found a new queen?

"Oh shit," was all Kate could say as she saw a picture of her, Castle and the kids laughing about something as they walked down the steps at the front of The Met. She remembered that moment too because they had been teasing Alexis about getting paint in her hair. Rick had been bugging her about becoming a punk rocker because of the pink, blue, purple and yellow that covered a large amount of the ends of her hair. She had asked Alexis why she hadn't just asked someone for a paint brush.

Kate was quickly snapped out of her thoughts by her cellphone ringing and part of her just wanted to ignore it but she knew she couldn't.

"Please be a body," she muttered as she put the paper down and grabbed the phone. She felt a wave of relief when she saw her dad's number instead of Lanie's on the display. "Hey dad," she said, doing her best to sound calm and content.

"Wanna guess what I saw this morning when I opened my paper?" he asked her. Kate could only groan when she heard the smirk in his voice.
